INTERVIEW GUIDE & CHECK LIST

Back Print interview guide
  • Research the company fully, visiting their own website.

  • Read and re read the job spec, so you fully understand the role and what is required.

  • ‘Dress to impress’ - sharp, clean lines, good quality suit, clean shoes, hair and nails.

  • Take a copy of your CV and the Job Spec with you.

  • Have a list of quality questions.

  • Plan your route to the interview – use www.streetmap.co.uk or www.multimap.com

  • If your interview is with a hotel or venue, have a look on the employer index at www.caterer.com - this will give you the full ‘low down’ on the company with turnover, number of employees etc. Also check on the same web site to see the latest news and press the venue / hotel has had.

  • Allow MORE than plenty of time for your interview- we recommend you arrive 30 minutes early, so you can get a coffee and gather your thoughts.

  • Try and project a positive ‘can do’ ‘will do attitude’ .

  • Explain clearly and confidently your main strengths and weaknesses, when asked.

  • When answering questions, stay focused on the question in hand and don’t go off at a tangent.

  • If you can’t answer a question- simply say you don’t know the answer to that question- they will respect you for it.

  • If there is any terminology on the job spec you do not understand, ask us, or make it your business find to find what it means.

  • Have a list of quality questions. Think of open-ended questions that begin with ‘What/When/Why & How’!
  • Here are a few examples:
How and where do you feel the company currently fits in the industry.
What are the plans for the company’s future.
What is the strongest part of their business.
How do you feel the brand/group identity supports the company’s success.

  • Don’t forget to smile!
